WITHDRAWAL OF BAUSCH & LOMB’S ReNu MoistureLoc ® CONTACT LENS SOLUTION

On the 15th May 2006 Bausch & Lomb withdrew their ReNu MoistureLoc Soft Contact Lens Multi-Purpose Solution from sale worldwide. This follows an earlier withdrawal in the United States because it has been implicated in an increase in ocular Fusarium infections that occurred in Hong Kong, Singapore and the US.

The United Kingdom licensing authority, the MHRA, has said that a root cause for these infections has not been found, but it has been noted that a disproportionate number of those infected use ReNu MoistureLoc.  The manufacturer is reported as having been unable to exclude the possibility that the problem may be related in someway to the formulation of their product.

Fusarium is a serious eye infection that can develop through the whole depth of the cornea.  The infection may be treated with anti-fungal therapy and in some extreme cases if the eye is damaged surgery may be necessary.  The symptoms include eye pain, eye discomfort, decrease in vision and light hypersensitivity.

Hugh James has considerable experience in dealing with injuries arising from defective eye products having recently represented several hundred individuals in a settlement protocol which involved prompt investigation and treatment of the condition and the payment of compensation.

If you or a member of your family has developed an infection in the eye and were a user of the Bausch & Lomb ReNu MoistureLoc Solution then please call us (free of charge) on 08702 200040.

In the meantime if you are concerned about your condition in anyway then you should consult your doctor immediately.  Please keep any or all bottles of ReNu MoistureLoc along with the original receipt or box (if available).  Please also retain the contact lenses that you used with the ReNu MoistureLoc with in its original container (do not rinse the case and do not use it again).  Save all prescriptions or copies of anything that you have used to treat your symptoms.
