Hugh James

Six-figure award for ladder injury

Gari Biggs of Porth, South Wales has received compensation in excess of £100,000 following an accident at his work. Hugh James Solicitors have recovered the six figure sum after taking county court proceedings on behalf of Gari.

Gari was injured whilst working at the Museum of Welsh Life, St Fagans near Cardiff in February 2006. As he was climbing an unsecured aluminium ladder provided by his employers, it slipped away. Gari was unable to save himself and suffered a serious fracture to his right arm and elbow.

Gari has been left with metalwork in his arm and has a permanent disability. He has been unable to return to work as steel erector but since the accident has successfully retrained as an electrician. Whilst he underwent retraining, Hugh James obtained interim awards of compensation so that Gari could continue to provide for his family during the period when he was unable to work.

"Thanks to Hugh James I am now able to get on with my life and put the accident behind me. It has been a very difficult time for me and my family" Says Gari, a former steel erector until his accident.

Cenric Clement-Evans, partner at Hugh James solicitors and an expert in work related injury claims says; "I am delighted that we have been able to help and support Gari following his accident. It is tremendous that with the help of rehabilitation arranged by Hugh James, Gari is now pursuing a new career as an electrician in the knowledge that his financial future is secure"
